What You Need to Buy Weed in Florida
- Your Florida medical marijuana card (temporary email card or physical card)
- A valid Florida driver's license or state ID
- Both documents must be current and not expired
Florida does not accept medical marijuana cards from other states. You must be a registered Florida patient with a valid OMMU card to enter and purchase.
The Dispensary Experience
Check-In
When you arrive, a staff member will verify your medical card and state ID. They will check your status in the MMUR to confirm your registration and physician certification are both active. This process typically takes just a few minutes.
Consultation
Most MMTCs offer a consultation with a knowledgeable patient consultant (budtender) who can help you understand your options based on your certified routes of administration. They can explain product types, dosing, and help you make informed choices. Don't hesitate to ask questions — the staff is there to help.
Purchasing
Products are dispensed based on your physician's certified routes. The MMUR system will show your remaining rolling supply balance for each route. The dispensary cannot sell you products beyond your allotment. Common payment methods include:
- Cash — Accepted at all dispensaries
- Debit cards — Accepted at many locations (processed as ATM transactions)
- CanPay and similar cannabis payment apps — Available at select locations
- Credit cards — Generally not accepted due to federal banking restrictions
First-Time Patient Discounts
Most Florida MMTCs offer significant first-time patient discounts, often ranging from 20–50% off your first purchase. Some operators offer discounts of up to 75% for first-time visitors. Ask about available promotions when you arrive. Many dispensaries also offer ongoing discounts for veterans, seniors, students, and SNAP/SSI recipients.
Delivery Option
Many Florida MMTCs offer home delivery for registered patients. Products are delivered by licensed MMTC staff who verify your medical card and ID upon arrival. Delivery areas, minimum orders, and fees vary by operator. Check with your preferred MMTC for delivery availability in your area.
