Where to Buy Weed in Florida
Florida's vertically integrated licensing system and $30 million+ entry costs have created one of the most concentrated cannabis markets in the country. Medical patients looking to buy weed legally must purchase from one of 28 licensed MMTCs, and the top five operators control the vast majority of retail locations and market share.
Trulieve
Trulieve is Florida's dominant cannabis company with over 150 dispensary locations statewide — more than any other operator. Founded in Florida in 2015, Trulieve was the first MMTC to open a dispensary in the state. The company is publicly traded (CSE: TRUL) and funded roughly $145 million of the Amendment 3 legalization campaign in 2024 through the Smart & Safe Florida political committee. Trulieve offers a full range of products including flower, vapes, edibles, concentrates, and topicals.
Curaleaf
Curaleaf operates approximately 50+ locations in Florida as part of its multi-state operations across the United States. One of the largest cannabis companies in the world by revenue, Curaleaf (CSE: CURA) offers a broad product portfolio including its Select brand vaporizers, Grassroots flower, and a range of edibles and topicals.
MÜV (Verano)
MÜV, operated by Verano Holdings (CSE: VRNO), maintains approximately 50+ dispensary locations across Florida. Known for a focus on product quality and innovation, MÜV carries a wide selection of flower strains, live rosin concentrates, and RSO products. The brand has built a strong reputation among Florida's patient community.
Surterra Wellness
Surterra Wellness operates around 40+ locations in Florida. Founded as a Florida-focused company, Surterra positions itself as a wellness brand with product lines spanning tinctures, topicals, vaporizers, and flower. The company has emphasized patient education and accessible pricing.
Ayr Cannabis
Ayr Cannabis (formerly Ayr Wellness, CSE: AYR.A) has expanded to approximately 30+ Florida locations. The company entered the Florida market through acquisition and has been growing its retail footprint across the state, offering a range of proprietary and partner brands.
Other Licensed Operators
Beyond the top five, Florida's remaining 23 licensed MMTCs include regional operators, smaller brands, and companies still establishing their retail presence. Some notable operators include:
- Fluent — Multiple locations, part of the Cansortium family
- Planet 13 — Known for its Las Vegas superstore, entered Florida through a $55 million license acquisition in 2021
- Sanctuary Cannabis — Growing presence with focus on patient service
- Gold Leaf — Smaller operator with select locations
Market Consolidation
The Florida cannabis market has seen significant consolidation, with licenses trading at $8–50 million depending on operational status and dispensary count. The vertical integration mandate and high entry costs favor well-capitalized multi-state operators and make it extremely difficult for independent businesses to enter the market.
